Little-used English words synonymous with schadenfreude have been derived from the Greek word epichairekakia (ἐπιχαιρεκακία). Nathan Bailey’s 18th-century Universal Etymological English Dictionary, for example, contains an entry for epicharikaky that gives its etymology as a compound of epi (upon), chaira (joy/charity/heart), and kakon (evil). A popular modern collection of rare words, however, gives its spelling as “epicaricacy”.

Epicaricacy Digital Multimedia was created in 2005 as a weblabel affiliated with the Internet Archive, and was placed on hiatus shortly afterward. Today, EDM brings you the latest in electro-acoustic experimentation, plunderphonia, interesting visuals, spontaneous live actions, and unlistenable crap. There are many new physical projects in the works, such as limited-edition CD-R, cassette and vinyl releases, printed materials, and electronic gadgets.

EDM is based in Asheville, NC, which is merely a coincidence.
